In April 2008, thousands of caring and thoughtful individuals from across the state gathered in Fort Lauderdale for the Florida AIDS Walk and demonstrated their commitment to reversing the course of the AIDS epidemic in Florida. One hundred percent of the funds raised went to HIV/AIDS program initiatives in Florida, including testing, a mobile clinic, and the Magic Johnson Healthcare Clinic, newly opened in Miami.
Florida AIDS Walk is produced by Event 360 for AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to HIV/AIDS prevention, education, accessible healthcare, research and patient advocacy. In Florida, AHF currently serves more than 10,000 people living with HIV/AIDS. AHF’s Out of the Closet Thrift Store, located in Wilton Manors, offers free HIV testing and treatment referral through an AHF Pharmacy built adjacent to the store.

On these special nights, thousands of participants carry illuminated balloons and raise funds for vital, lifesaving research and patient services.

The LGBT Task Group of Broward County is asking you to stand up and make your voice heard. Please go to www.lgbtcensus.com to participate in South Florida’s first comprehensive census and needs assessment of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
This year the group commemorates the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, an event that marked the beginning of the struggle of the LGBT community for full equality and protection under the law. As with the struggle of women and African Americans, the LGBT community must stand up and be heard. Participation in The Count is another step in that direction.
